The Ogun State Police Command has detained a 65-year-old man, Olalekan Ogunjobi, following the death of a 60-year-old married woman, Serifatu Disu, in his residence at Fatimoh Castle, Konigba, in the Ago-Iwoye area of Ogun State.
According to police spokesperson Omolola Odutola, the incident occurred around 12:40 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2024. Disu reportedly left her husband’s home to visit Ogunjobi and began experiencing chest pains shortly after midnight. She collapsed after stepping out of the room and lost consciousness despite Ogunjobi’s attempts to administer first aid.
The Divisional Police Officer of Ago-Iwoye was alerted and quickly arrived at the scene. “Olalekan Ogunjobi confirmed that Serifatu Disu, a friend of his, had visited him late at night. Around 12:40 a.m., she complained of chest pain, stepped outside, and collapsed. Despite efforts to revive her, she passed away,” Odutola said.
Police have launched a preliminary investigation, and Ogunjobi has been taken into custody for further questioning. The deceased's body was transported to the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode and later moved to the mortuary for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
“We have visited the scene, and the body has been removed for a post-mortem examination. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” Odutola added.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities seek to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
