Fire Ravages Shops in Ibadan, Destroys Property Worth Millions-OXYGIST

A devastating fire outbreak in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has destroyed property valued at millions of naira. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at the Tollgate area along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Eyewitnesses report that no fewer than four shops were engulfed in the inferno, which reduced goods and valuables to ashes. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident, stating that the fire was reported to the agency at approximately 5:50 am.

According to Mr. Akinyinka, the fire was traced to a cooking mishap, with a naked flame left unattended by a woman in one of the affected shops.

“The fire incident was reported to our agency at exactly 05:50 hours on Friday, January 3, 2025. Four shops were destroyed by the fire, but multiple nearby shops were saved from being affected,” he said.

He further noted that while property worth millions of naira was lost to the fire, materials and shops valued at billions were successfully protected from the blaze.
