Five Injured in Lagos Auto Crash on Third Mainland Bridge-OXYGIST

Five individuals sustained varying degrees of injuries following a collision involving a commercial bus and a Toyota Highlander on the Third Mainland Bridge near the University of Lagos Waterfront, heading towards Adeniji.


The incident occurred on Tuesday, briefly disrupting traffic flow on the busy bridge.


The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the accident in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that its officials, alongside good Samaritans, promptly rescued the injured victims and ensured they received immediate medical attention.


In its post, LASTMA stated:


“An accident occurred on the Third Mainland Bridge at the Unilag Waterfront inward Adeniji, involving a commercial bus and a Toyota Highlander. Five casualties (injured persons) were swiftly rescued by LASTMA officials and other good Samaritans.”


Efforts are currently underway to clear the affected vehicles and restore the smooth flow of traffic on the bridge.


“Recovery of the affected vehicles is also expected to be completed shortly,” the agency added.


LASTMA urged motorists to prioritize road safety by adhering to speed limits, conducting thorough vehicle checks before heading out, and driving cautiously. The agency emphasized the importance of cooperating with traffic officials and prioritizing safety to prevent avoidable accidents.


“Let’s always drive cautiously, maintain the speed limit, and ensure vehicle conditions are checked before leaving home,” LASTMA advised.
