Gunmen Abduct Abia Electoral Commission Chairman in Imo-OXYGIST

Suspected kidnappers have abducted the Chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), Prof. George Chima, in Okigwe, Imo State.


The incident occurred on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Chima’s residence, where he was hosting guests. According to a family source, the professor was entertaining lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu, when four armed men stormed the house, harassed his visitors, and whisked him away to an unknown location.


Confirming the incident, Imo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that security operatives are actively pursuing the kidnappers.


"Yes, we are aware of the professor’s abduction, and investigations have commenced. As we speak, the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, is personally leading a team to Okigwe. The police are committed to ensuring the kidnappers are apprehended," Okoye told Punch


Authorities have assured the public that efforts are underway to rescue Prof. Chima and bring his abductors to justice.
