The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), in collaboration with other security agencies, has arrested 90 foreign nationals in Rivers State over their alleged involvement in cybercrime activities aimed at defrauding innocent Nigerians.

The arrests, confirmed by Rivers State Comptroller of Immigration, Y.I. Abdulmajeed, were the result of a coordinated operation based on credible intelligence. The operation targeted a known hideout where the suspects were allegedly engaging in cybercriminal activities.

A total of 94 individuals were apprehended, including:

  • 85 Cameroonians

  • 5 Chadians

  • 4 Nigerians

The group consisted of 74 males and 20 females. Comptroller Abdulmajeed disclosed that all 90 foreign nationals had entered Nigeria through unauthorized routes and were without residence permits or valid travel documents at the time of their arrest.

Two Nigerians from Rivers State, suspected of providing accommodation and acting as landlords for the foreign nationals, were also arrested. Their alleged role in facilitating illegal activities has drawn concern about local complicity in cybercrime networks.

The Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case to ensure justice is served. Speaking on the matter, Comptroller Abdulmajeed emphasized the NIS’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s borders and curbing criminal activities within the country.
