Nigerian actress Iyabo Ojo has expressed deep regret over her role in advocating for the exhumation of late singer Mohbad’s body, citing the prolonged burial delays and family disputes that have since unfolded.
During an interview on the Talk to B podcast with Biola Bayo, Iyabo revealed that her intentions were rooted in a desire for justice. She had hoped an autopsy would clarify the cause of Mohbad’s controversial death and lead to accountability for those involved.
Reflecting on the situation, Iyabo admitted:
“I wouldn’t have requested that Mohbad be exhumed if I knew his case would turn out this way. He hasn’t been buried till now. His dad says he wants a DNA test done, and I heard the court has granted his request. But now, I hear his dad has conditions again.
“I just wanted Mohbad’s body exhumed so they could do the autopsy to find out the cause of his death. I did my best to ensure everyone was investigated, but when they came up with different theories, DNA became more important to them.”
Mohbad, whose real name was Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, passed away on September 12, 2023, under controversial circumstances. He was buried the following day. However, the Lagos State Police exhumed his body on September 21, 2023, to conduct an autopsy as part of their investigation.
In October 2023, the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, insisted that Mohbad would not be reburied until a DNA test was conducted to confirm the paternity of Mohbad’s son, Liam. Despite the court granting the request, the process has been further delayed by additional conditions set by the family.
