Ademola Lookman’s spectacular third goal for Atalanta in the Europa League final has earned a spot on UEFA’s list of the tournament’s best goals for 2024, as reported by Soccernet.ng.

Lookman delivered a masterclass in the May final, scoring a breathtaking hat-trick to secure Atalanta’s historic 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen. This achievement marked the first time an African player scored three goals in a European competition final, etching Lookman’s name in the record books.

The Super Eagles star opened the scoring in the 12th minute, expertly finishing off a low cross from Davide Zappacosta. He followed up with a moment of brilliance in the 26th minute, dribbling past defenders before curling a stunning shot into the net for Atalanta’s second.

Lookman’s third and most iconic goal came in the 75th minute. After sidestepping his marker with ease, he unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner, sealing Atalanta’s maiden Europa League triumph and crushing any hopes of a comeback for the previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen.

UEFA celebrated Lookman’s unforgettable performance by featuring his third goal in their month-by-month video of the Europa League’s best goals. The list includes standout strikes such as Rafael Leao’s effort for AC Milan against Slavia Prague in March and Angel Di Maria’s brilliant finish for Benfica against Marseille in April.

Crowning an extraordinary year, Lookman won the prestigious CAF Player of the Year award, becoming the sixth Nigerian to receive the honor.

Building on their Europa League success, Lookman has been instrumental in Atalanta’s pursuit of their first-ever Serie A title. The 27-year-old forward has already racked up nine goals and five assists in 15 league matches, helping Atalanta share the top spot on the Serie A table with reigning champions Inter Milan.

With his dazzling form, Ademola Lookman continues to shine as a beacon of excellence in both European and African football.
