Nigerian singer Teni Apata has honored the memory of her late father, Brigadier-General Simeon Apata, on the 30th anniversary of his passing.
Taking to social media, Teni recounted the tragic event, revealing that her father was assassinated on January 8, 1995, right in front of their home and in the presence of his wife and children.
In a heartfelt tribute, the singer shared a collage of photos and a video celebrating her father’s enduring legacy. Describing him as a hero, Teni noted that her father was a formidable figure who struck fear in the hearts of armed robbers, many of whom he confronted before his untimely death.
Among the images shared was a picture of Brigadier-General Apata’s three wives, whom Teni affectionately referred to as “sisters” from diverse parts of Nigeria. The wives—Gladys Ify from Delta State, Margaret Olayinka from Ekiti State, and Margaret Folajogun from Ondo State—had previously shared their reflections in an interview with journalist Gregory Austin Nwakunor, where they spoke about the profound impact of their husband’s loss on their lives.
Teni also highlighted one of her father’s most significant contributions: the establishment of Apata Memorial Nursery/Primary and Secondary School. The institution, which offers both day and boarding facilities, remains a lasting testament to his dedication to education and community development.
