The Nigerian government has successfully addressed the passport printing delays at its New York and Atlanta consulates in the United States, following months of frustration among Nigerians in the diaspora.
This development comes after directives issued in January 2025 by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, aimed at resolving challenges caused by outdated passport printing machines.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has now installed new passport printers at both consulates, ensuring a smoother and faster passport application process for Nigerians abroad.
A statement released on Wednesday by Babatunde Alao, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Interior, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to innovation and improved service delivery.
“The Ministry is committed to innovation and improved service delivery. The installation of these new printers demonstrates our dedication to addressing the needs of Nigerians at home and abroad,” the statement read.
With the new machines in place, the backlog of passport applications is expected to be cleared swiftly, providing immediate relief to Nigerians who have experienced long delays in obtaining their travel documents.
This move reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance efficiency and responsiveness in consular services for Nigerians worldwide.
