Tragedy struck in the Lubo community of Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area, Gombe State, as gunmen fatally shot a presiding pastor of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Bala Galadima, in what authorities have described as a robbery incident.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, February 9, 2025.Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Gombe State Police Command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, stated that the assailants entered the pastor’s residence under the cover of darkness.
“The case is a robbery because they broke into the house at night, likely attempting to steal. Unfortunately, the victim was shot in the back, possibly while trying to escape,” Abdullahi explained.
Following the tragic event, the Commissioner of Police, Bello Yahaya, visited the hospital where the pastor’s body was taken. He has since deployed a special squad to the area, assuring residents that those responsible will be apprehended and brought to justice.
A local resident, identified as Ahmadu, shared more details about the attack.
“The gunmen first went to the ECWA Church in our community before heading to a nearby compound, where they stole money. We believe they didn’t initially target the pastor, but he may have been shot when he looked outside after hearing noises. Sadly, he was hit in the back,” Ahmadu recounted.
