Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned at the Isabo High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, following his surrender to the police.
This development comes just a day after Portable turned himself in at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Yaba. His decision to surrender followed a declaration by the Ogun State Police Command, which had placed him on a wanted list.
The case against Portable stems from an incident on February 5, when he allegedly led an attack on officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development. The officials were on an enforcement duty at his bar in Sango Ota when the attack occurred, leaving some of them injured.
While nine of Portable’s associates were arrested at the scene, the singer evaded capture until his recent surrender.
Born on March 12, 1994, in Abeokuta, Portable gained widespread recognition in 2021 with his hit single ZaZoo Zehh, featuring Olamide and Poco Lee. However, his rise to fame has been accompanied by a string of controversies, from clashes with fellow artists to accusations of violent behavior.
The Ogun State Government has strongly criticized his latest actions, branding him a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal.”
With legal proceedings now underway, all eyes are on the court’s next move regarding the controversial artist.
