Sowore: IBB, Obasanjo, Abubakar, and David Mark Should Be Jailed Over Abiola-OXYGIST

Former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has called for the imprisonment of former Nigerian leaders Ibrahim Babangida (IBB), Olusegun Obasanjo, Abdulsalami Abubakar, and David Mark over their roles in the annulment of the 1993 presidential election.

Sowore’s remarks came in response to IBB’s recent admission that Moshood Abiola was the rightful winner of the election. During the launch of his autobiography, A Journey of Service, on Thursday, Babangida acknowledged that Abiola had met all constitutional requirements to be declared President of Nigeria.

Reacting on 𝕏, Sowore insisted that this revelation was enough grounds for the former leaders to face justice.

“MKO Abiola won the June 12, 1993, election. He satisfied all the requirements to be declared President of Nigeria, says Babangida. This is why Babangida, Obasanjo, Abubakar Salam, and David Mark must be in jail.”

Sowore had earlier predicted that IBB would attempt to shift the blame onto the late General Sani Abacha, accusing him of orchestrating the election’s annulment.

“Babangida’s book will falsely blame Abacha for annulling the June 12 election. But the truth is, Babangida has always been deceptive—his narrative cannot be trusted.”

Despite Babangida’s claim that Abacha acted without his knowledge, critics, including Sowore, continue to hold him and other former military leaders accountable for denying Nigeria a democratic transition in 1993.
