The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates (2nd series). A total of 65,023 candidates sat for the exam.
In a statement issued on Sunday, February 16, and signed by WAEC’s Acting Public Affairs Head, Mrs. Moyosola Adesina, the council revealed that 34,878 candidates (53.64%) obtained credits or higher in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. Among them, 16,886 (48.41%) were male candidates, while 17,992 (51.58%) were female candidates.
Adesina further disclosed that 62,354 candidates (95.90%) had their results fully processed and released, while 2,669 candidates (4.10%) still have some subjects pending due to errors traceable to them. The council assured affected candidates that efforts are underway to resolve these issues promptly.
Additionally, statistical analysis of the results showed that 43,923 candidates (67.55%) achieved credits or higher in at least five subjects, regardless of whether English Language and Mathematics were included.
However, WAEC withheld the results of 2,577 candidates (3.96%) due to various cases of examination malpractice. Affected candidates have been advised to visit the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal (https://waecinternational.org/complaints) to respond to the allegations. Investigations will be conducted, and decisions will be communicated directly to those involved.
Candidates can check their results online at www.waecdirect.org before proceeding to the WAEC Digital Certificate platform (www.waec.org) to access digital copies of their certificates.
The council also provided details on the examination process, noting that the exams took place in Nigeria between October 25 and December 20, 2024. Marking of scripts was carried out from January 15 to February 4, 2025, at five marking centers in Lagos, Ibadan, Benin, Enugu, and Kaduna, with 3,327 examiners participating in the exercise.
For the first time, WAEC conducted the WASSCE for private candidates in two formats—traditional paper-and-pen and a computer-based hybrid mode—allowing candidates to choose their preferred option during registration.
