A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an interim order restraining the Senate Ethics Committee from proceeding with its probe of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, effectively putting the deliberations on hold.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu granted the order on Wednesday after reviewing an ex parte application filed by the legal team of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate.
The ruling comes just as the committee was set to convene, with speculation that it could lead to an indefinite suspension of the senator.
With this court order in place, all proceedings on the matter remain suspended pending further judicial review.
