A Sharia Court in Kano State has ordered the remand of a 29-year-old man, Abduljabar Nura, for allegedly stabbing his neighbor during a dispute over an electricity bill.
The incident, which occurred in Fagge Quarters, led to Nura being charged with causing grievous harm. When the charge was read in court on Wednesday, March 12, he pleaded guilty.
Presiding over the case, Judge Umar Lawal-Abubakar ruled that the defendant be held at the Goron Dutse Correctional Centre until April 15, when sentencing will be delivered.
According to prosecution counsel Zahradeen Abubakar, the matter was reported by the victim, Haruna Kasim, at the Fagge Police Station on February 28.
The police revealed that during an argument over electricity bills, Nura stabbed Kasim in the back with a pair of scissors, leading to the serious charges against him.
With the court now set to deliver its verdict in April, the case highlights growing concerns over disputes escalating into violence in local communities.
