President Tinubu Appoints Bishop Kukah as Pro-Chancellor of Federal University of Applied Sciences-OXYGIST

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, Kaduna State.


The announcement was made on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.


In addition to Bishop Kukah’s appointment, President Tinubu named other key officials to lead the university:


  • Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas – Vice-Chancellor

  • Sanusi Gambo Adamu – Registrar

  • Ibrahim Dalhat – Bursar

  • Prof. Daniel Abubakar – University Librarian


Furthermore, the President appointed the following individuals to the university’s Governing Council:


  • Mr. Thomas Etuh (North Central)

  • Chief Fabian Nwaora (South East)

  • Prof. Femi Taiwo (South West)

  • Zarah Bukar (North East)


President Tinubu emphasized that the appointees were selected based on their distinguished careers and leadership experience. He urged them to provide strong leadership and lay a solid foundation as the university prepares to admit its first students in September 2025.


The President noted that these appointments align with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the education sector, reinforcing the commitment to academic excellence and research.


The Federal University of Applied Sciences, formerly known as Nok University, was renamed following its acquisition by the federal government.
