Ibadanland is in mourning following the death of its revered traditional ruler, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan.
According to Vanguard, the monarch passed away in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.
The news of his passing comes as the city was marking both his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his coronation—a bittersweet moment for the people of Oyo State.
Oba Olakulehin was officially presented with the staff of office by Governor Seyi Makinde on July 12, 2024, in a grand ceremony that recognized his ascension as the 43rd traditional ruler of Ibadanland.
The late king was known for his wisdom, calm demeanor, and deep commitment to the peace and progress of Ibadan. His passing marks the end of a significant era in the city’s rich history.
