Suspected Vandal Electrocuted While Tampering with Power Tower in Ebonyi-OXYGIST

A tragic incident has been reported in Ebonyi State as a suspected vandal lost his life while attempting to tamper with a high-voltage transmission tower.

According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the individual was electrocuted while trying to vandalize Tower 34 along the Nkalagu Abakaliki 132kV transmission line on July 19. His lifeless body, which was left hanging on the tower, has since been recovered.

In a statement released by Ndidi Mbah, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, the company stressed the extreme dangers involved in interfering with electrical infrastructure. Mbah warned that transmission lines carry dangerously high voltages and are crucial to Nigeria’s power supply making them a deadly risk for intruders.

"We have consistently warned the public about the life-threatening risks of tampering with our power facilities. These structures are not only vital to our national grid but also extremely hazardous," she stated.

TCN is urging citizens to take ownership in protecting critical power assets within their communities. They advised residents to stay alert and report any suspicious activities around electricity infrastructure to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
