A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has launched a scathing attack on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, accusing him of spreading falsehoods and denying his humble beginnings.
Reacting to Wike’s recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where the minister claimed he came from a wealthy background and drove himself to school, Eze described the remarks as misleading and self-serving. Wike, in the interview, distanced himself from his former political ally, Rotimi Amaechi, saying they did not share the same upbringing.
Wike also alleged that Dame Judith, Amaechi’s wife, received N4 million monthly to empower women in Rivers State. He even vowed to resign if a forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) failed to implicate her.
But Chief Eze, a known ally of Amaechi, dismissed Wike’s claims as baseless and desperate attempts to rewrite his past.
“He has ridiculed himself by fabricating tales of wealth and privilege. Wike was once an errand boy to Amaechi and now pretends he rose without help,” Eze said in a statement to journalists.
The APC stalwart questioned how Wike rose through the ranks—from Local Government Chairman to Chief of Staff and then Minister—if not through the support of those he now denies.
"Claiming he came from affluence is an insult to those who truly know his story. Poverty was a visible part of his upbringing. His own father disowned him due to his conduct, and it was actually a friend’s father who paid his school fees," Eze added.
He didn’t stop there. Eze also took a swipe at Wike’s wife, who currently serves as a judge, questioning whether living with a man like Wike could cloud her sense of judgment. “The judiciary is sacred, and a judge’s background influences their decisions. Sleeping beside someone like Wike daily is bound to raise concerns about judicial integrity,” he said.
Reflecting on the political history between Amaechi and Wike, Eze expressed regret that Amaechi once helped elevate Wike to prominence. “Appointing Wike as Local Government Chairman, then Chief of Staff, and later recommending him for a ministerial role was Amaechi’s biggest political mistake,” he said.
He concluded by blaming Wike for dismantling many of the developmental strides made during Amaechi’s administration.
“Wike’s time as Governor of Rivers State was marked by the systematic destruction of key projects and policies that could’ve improved education, agriculture, and human development in the state,” Eze stated.
