Ogun moves to discourage brain drain among health workers

The newly appointed Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Quudus Yusuff says the present administration in Ogun State is working hard to discourage brain drain in the health sector.

To this end, the government has continued to prioritise the health and wellbeing of its citizenry, hence, it has not relented in funding hospitals across the State also.

This was disclosed during the familiarization visit of the Permanent Secretary to some health facilities in Ijebu-Ode area of the state.

Dr. Yusuff noted that several health projects have been commissioned in the last three years of the Prince Dapo Abiodun led government, pointing out that many more are in the pipeline.

He revealed that the government would continue to motivate medical practitioners and other health officers to make migration unattractive, saying, “ though no amount paid to healthcare practitioners would match the hazard they are exposed to, but the remuneration of health workers in our State is equal with our counterparts working in Federal Government facilities.

‘’Over a thousand approvals for recruitment had been received and implemented since the inception of this administration for the post of consultants, medical officers, nurses, pharmacists, scientific officers, health attendants, as well as interns, among others," Yusuff said.

He added that the introduction of the Health Insurance Scheme to the downtrodden is another achievement of the government in health care financing which is geared towards making health care accessible and affordable for indigents.

The Permanent Secretary advised officers that would want to travel for greener pastures, to follow the Civil Service Rules before quitting.

Responding, the Chief Medical Director, State Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, Dr. Oluseye Adetola, appreciated the government for working assiduously to provide quality health services to the people.
