A Lagos base hair stylist, Sodeinde Olufemi Rufus has appealed to the federal government to tap into the abundance of  potentials in the barbing profession to boost the country Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Oluwafemi who is also known as celebrity barber argued that such initiative could lift  over 200 million Nigerians out of poverty.

He spoke in an interview with newsmen  in Lagos.

Oluwafemi said government should empower youths on how to manufacture barbing tools such as clippers and brush rather than importing them into the country.

"Government should teach youths  on how to make clippers and not import it. We can do this. We had done this when our forefathers make the locally made clipper. And it works well.

"Gone are the days we use cord clippers but now, most barber don't use it anymore. We now use the one that use battery. So as technology is advancing, send some of our youths abroad and let them learn how to make things.

"Government needs to tap into the new world of technology which is advancing everyday.  They should train youth in a systematic way, and the government pumps money into it, it comes back huge return as capital.

He hinted that the world is currently going in the direction of entrepreneur, insisting that government must not hesitate to follow the global trend.

The poly graduate equally urged the federal government to emulate the United State policy of registering all  certifying every stylist that must operate in US in order to discourage the influx of quark in the profession.

"That is why United States have say, for any barber to work in the US, the person must have a permit, must be certified. That is a good certificate for any individual. A certificate given by government to you. We don't have that here.

"So for government to be accountable, it will know that you are working and you must pay tax. That is the philosophy of the new world."

If I am not passionate about this, I won't consider education useful. That is why I say every children should consider education paramount and whatever you chose, that is why we have the EED, which is very good.I have enjoyed so many benefits from the program.

We can also accumulate from this because during this going to school, when you add education to your passion and government make support to make it easier instead of you making it the hard part, government need to make an environment conducive. A system that will make things easy and interconnected. When this thing is sorted out, we will understand why human should look back at one another's back.

When they come back, build on them. Also, host a competition for the best barber in Nigeria. Host an award for the best graduating student in barbing profession. Take it as a school. Educate them.

So, it is just that, if the old man who used to barber my hair had education, he is so good, but he didn't have education. Reason is because the parent usually send their children on a vocation without giving priority to his success.

But in this new world, eventing is different and the government coming  in can restructure everything and make it work in a way it should work. And it will make people value that we are their hair doctor.
