This was disclosed in a release signed by state permanent secretary ministry of agriculture Samuel Adeogun.
The Ministry of Agriculture is spearheading these efforts and has issued a public health advisory to educate citizens about Anthrax and the necessary precautions they should take, especially with the upcoming lleya Festival in mind.
Samuel Adeogun stated that the disease is highly contagious affecting both wild and domestic animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, camels, pigs, and antelopes, and can be transmitted to humans through contact with infected animals or contaminated animal products.
"Symptoms in animals include sudden death, abortion in pregnant animals, and the discharge of blood from natural body openings like the mouth, ears, and anus.
To safeguard the public's well-being, the Ogun State Government has provided the following guidelines for residents to adhere to:
"Avoid contact with any animal that has died suddenly. Do not purchase dead wild animals with bleeding from natural body openings.
" Purchase all meat only from registered slaughter slabs. Report cases of sudden death in animals, especially if unclotted blood is exuding through the

"Sales of animals during the lleya Festival are restricted to markets owned by local or state government. Roadside sales of animals are prohibited.
" All animal traders must obtain a movement permit from the Department of Veterinary Services, ministry of agriculture."
The permanent secretary added that the state government is committed to ensure the health and safety of its residents and visitors.
He said" by following these guidelines, the public can help prevent the spread of Anthrax and protect themselves and their communities."
