Super Eagles defender Daniel Bameyi is on the verge of joining Nigeria Premier Football League side Bayelsa United.

The 18-year-old, who earned his first cap with the Super Eagles, is reportedly close to finalizing a move to Bayelsa United, where he would reunite with his former coach, Ladan Bosso. Bameyi, a bronze medalist at the 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, confirmed the transfer talks but emphasized that the deal is still in progress.

Bayelsa United’s media officer, Hananeel Jackson, also confirmed that Bameyi is currently training with the team. However, he noted that no official statement has been released regarding the transfer.

Bameyi first gained prominence under the mentorship of Bosso, who selected him for the Flying Eagles squad in the U-20 AFCON tournament, where Bameyi captained the team to a third-place finish.

Bosso, who recently returned to domestic football as the manager of Bayelsa United, the 2009 Nigerian Premier League champions, will be looking to leverage Bameyi's versatility in the upcoming season. Capable of playing as a right-back, right wing-back, or right center-back, Bameyi is expected to be a significant addition to Bosso’s lineup.

As Bayelsa United prepares for the new NPFL season, fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement that could see Bameyi donning the club’s colors soon. The transfer remains in progress, but the prospect of Bameyi’s reunion with Bosso is generating excitement among supporters.
