An early goal by Alejandra Lomelí handed Mexico a 1-0 win over Nigeria’s Falconets in their final warm-up match in Bogota, Colombia, ahead of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.
The Falconets, who touched down in Colombia last week, have been intensively preparing for the global tournament. To sharpen their skills, the Nigeria Football Federation set up two critical international friendlies.
The Falconets secured a 2-1 victory over Australia in their first friendly but couldn’t maintain that momentum against Mexico. The match was closely contested, with both teams evenly matched throughout much of the game.
Mexico, however, made their early pressure count in the 15th minute when CSYD Atlas De Guadalajara forward Alejandra Lomelí connected with a cross from the left wing, sending a precise shot past the Nigerian goalkeeper to secure the lead.

Despite the Falconets’ determined efforts to equalize, they were unable to break through Mexico’s defense. Although they created several chances, none were converted, leaving them to regroup as they prepare for their opening match in the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup, which kicks off this weekend.
Nigeria is placed in Group D, where they face a tough lineup, including Germany, Venezuela, and Korea Republic. The Falconets will begin their campaign against Korea Republic on Monday, 2nd September, followed by a match against Germany on 4th September, and concluding with a clash against Venezuela on 7th September.
