Christiana Idowu, a 300-level student from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, was abducted along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos while on her way to the University of Lagos, where she was undergoing her industrial training.
Christiana, who resides in the Itaoluwo area of Ikorodu, was kidnapped last week while traveling to the Yaba area of the state. A family member, who preferred to remain anonymous, revealed on Monday, August 26, 2024, that the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of N3 million for her release.
The source explained that after Christiana became unreachable, her family received a call from her abductors via her phone. The kidnappers initially demanded N3 million but later agreed to lower the ransom to N350,000 after several pleas from the family.
Despite the family transferring the agreed N350,000 to the kidnappers, Christiana was not released. The abductors then requested the bank statement of the account used for the transfer before they would consider releasing her.
"They are communicating with us through her WhatsApp, and we initially agreed on N3 million, which was later reduced to N1 million, then to N500,000, and finally, they agreed to N350,000," the source said.
"After we paid the N350,000, they refused to release her and demanded we provide the bank statement of the account we used for the transfer before they would release her."
The family has reported the incident to the police and is appealing to the government and the public for assistance in securing Christiana's release.
