Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has expressed his gratitude to the residents of the state for heeding his request to avoid participating in the ongoing hunger protests that have led to loss of lives and property destruction in other parts of the country.
In a statement signed by Ukoha Njoku Ukoha, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Otti, it was revealed that the governor had made two appeals last week, urging the people of Abia not to join the protests.
Governor Otti conveyed his appreciation while attending Sabbath worship at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, No 1 School Road, Aba South Conference, over the weekend.
The Chief Press Secretary detailed that the governor’s first appeal occurred during a private breakfast meeting with Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, after which they addressed the press.
The second appeal was made through a broadcast on the eve of the protest’s commencement. While Governor Otti acknowledged the people’s right to peaceful protest to express their grievances, he expressed concern that the demonstrations could be hijacked by hoodlums, undermining the progress being made under his administration.
