Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has praised the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund for its long-standing commitment to the Maltina Teacher of the Year Award, a prestigious initiative that has been recognizing exceptional educators for the past nine years.

During a recent reception at the State House, Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration's unwavering commitment to prioritizing education. He emphasized that the state would continue to allocate comprehensive budgets to address all facets of education, including infrastructure, skill development, and teacher training. This approach ensures that both educators and students have the necessary resources to excel.

The governor's commendation came as he hosted Miss Adeola Adefemi, the 2023 Maltina Teacher of the Year, an English Language teacher at Keke Senior High School in Agege, Lagos. The event also saw the presence of the Nigerian Breweries team, who joined in celebrating Adefemi’s remarkable achievement.

The Maltina Teacher of the Year Competition, established in 2015 by Nigerian Breweries Plc under the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, aims to identify, honor, and reward outstanding teachers across Nigeria. This national competition has earned endorsements from key education stakeholders, including the Federal Ministry of Education, the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPPS), and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed immense pride in Adefemi’s accomplishment, noting that her victory among over 1,000 educators from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory is a testament to the progress of public education in Lagos State. He highlighted her success as a reflection of the resilient "can-do spirit" that characterizes Lagosians.

The governor also encouraged Adefemi to continue her pursuit of excellence, reminding her that this award carries added responsibilities to her profession and the state.

Meanwhile, Sade Morgan, Corporate Affairs Director at Nigerian Breweries Plc, who led the delegation, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing education in Nigeria through the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund. Morgan emphasized that the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition was created to honor the vital role teachers play in shaping the future leaders of the nation. She also extended gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu and his administration for their continuous support since the competition's inception.
