Seven Farmers Abducted in Kaduna; Bandits Demand N2 Million Ransom-OXYGIST

The Kankarami community in Anguwar Barde village, along the Kaduna-Abuja highway, is reeling from the recent abduction of seven farmers by bandits. The criminals are demanding a ransom of N2 million, a sum the village finds impossible to raise.

The farmers were seized while tending to their fields on the morning of Saturday, August 24, 2024.

A local leader from Unguwar Barde, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust. He revealed that all the victims are men and shared the community’s deep distress over the situation.

"We are devastated by this tragic event. The abduction of our men while they were simply working to provide for their families has left us in a state of despair. The ransom being demanded is far beyond what we can afford, especially given the economic hardships we face," the leader stated.

He also highlighted the dire consequences of the situation, emphasizing that if the bandits continue to block access to their farms, the villagers will struggle to sustain themselves.

"Even if the ransom was reduced to N1 million, it would still be an unattainable amount for us because of our impoverished conditions," he added.
