The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has announced a temporary suspension of its campaign activities following the death of the First Lady, Patience Umo Eno.
The sad news was confirmed in a statement released on Friday by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Ini Ememobong. According to reports, Mrs. Eno passed away on Thursday at an undisclosed hospital after a brief illness.
Reacting to the tragic development, PDP spokesperson Edwin Ebiese expressed the party’s sorrow and announced the suspension of all campaign efforts for the upcoming Local Government election.
“This devastating loss has plunged our party, and the entire state, into mourning,” Ebiese said in a statement. “Out of respect for the departed First Lady, we have decided to put our campaign activities on hold as we grieve.”
The Local Government election is scheduled to take place across the state’s 31 LGAs on October 5, 2024.
