Super Eagles and Bayer 04 Leverkusen striker, Victor Okoh Boniface, has sparked speculation about a potential move to Spain after expressing his interest in learning Spanish.
The 23-year-old forward, who joined Bayer Leverkusen last summer from Union Saint-Gilloise, had an outstanding debut season, helping his team clinch the Bundesliga title and the DFB Pokal, while also guiding them to the UEFA Europa League final under coach Xabi Alonso. This season, Boniface has continued to shine, contributing four goals in just three league matches for Die Werkself.
In an interview with Sporty TV, the Nigerian international opened up about the challenges of adapting to the German language and communication within the club. While English is the primary language spoken among his teammates, Boniface revealed that he finds German difficult to learn.
“Yeah, we speak English, but some of my teammates, like Nathan (Tella), take German classes. I haven’t had the time to join them. The language is tough, but when I need a translation, he’s got my back,” said the DFL Super Cup winner.
Interestingly, Boniface shared that he’s more drawn to learning Spanish, fueling rumors about a possible move to La Liga in the future. When asked about playing for a Spanish club, he laughed and said, “I want to learn Spanish, but German? Not so much. I’d love to play in Spain someday.”
During the September international break, Boniface featured in Nigeria’s two matches, though he was unable to score on either occasion.
