Popular Nigerian singer Rema has once again made headlines, this time for his generous heart. During a recent visit to Benin State, the artist pledged a staggering ₦105 million to the church that stood by him and his mother after his father's passing.
Following a spectacular performance in Benin on Saturday, Rema returned to the church where he worshipped as a child on Sunday. The church, which had played a significant role in his upbringing, welcomed him with open arms, offering prayers for him and his mother. During his heartfelt speech, Rema revealed that this very church had opened a shop for his mother, helping them survive after the loss of his father.
As a gesture of gratitude, Rema pledged ₦105 million to the church to support various projects. This incredible act of generosity left many netizens in awe, praising the singer for remembering and honoring the people who had supported him during tough times. They noted that he could have kept silent, but instead chose to repay the kindness shown to him and his family.
In his speech, Rema humbly said, “I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory. I feel like it is important to give back because the church has embraced and prayed for me, and has kept me very consistent with my spirit.”
Rema’s pledges included ₦40 million for the church’s infrastructure, ₦20 million for the Rhapsody of Realities initiative, ₦25 million for the teen’s church infrastructure, and ₦20 million to support widows in the church.
Reflecting on his childhood, Rema shared, “When I was eight years old, after losing my dad, we felt lost and abandoned. Everything we had was taken from us, and we felt very alone. I remember Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas, the pastors of this church, opened a shop for my mum, and that was how she managed to take care of us.”
