Nigerian singer and social commentator Seun Kuti recently addressed the ongoing controversy involving activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as Verydarkman (VDM). Speaking during a live session on October 25, 2024, Kuti clarified that while he supports Verydarkman as a friend, he has no control over his actions or decisions.
This statement comes amid debates over N200 million in donations that Verydarkman’s NGO recently received, including a significant N100 million contribution from music icon Don Jazzy. While the substantial support sparked discussions online, some critics questioned the transparency of the organization. Seun Kuti addressed rumors that he is behind VDM's recent actions but emphasized that the activist’s efforts are entirely self-driven.
Kuti also shared his general reservations about charity, stating that he prefers to observe how people’s true intentions reveal themselves through their actions, rather than relying on outward displays.
