EFCC Detains Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Over N80.2 Billion Fraud Allegations-OXYGIST

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello over alleged involvement in an N80.2 billion fraud case.

Bello surrendered himself at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday after months of evading multiple summons. His detention was confirmed by Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, during a press briefing.

“Yes, he is in our custody,” Oyewale stated. “The Commission’s operatives arrested him earlier today.”

Accompanied by his legal team, Bello appeared at the EFCC office to address allegations of financial misconduct during his tenure. Notably absent from the entourage was his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, who had previously accompanied him to the EFCC office weeks earlier.

The EFCC had declared Bello wanted in April 2024 for alleged money laundering involving over N80 billion. His detention marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
