A gas cylinder explosion at a filling station in Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State, caused extensive damage to six vehicles. This incident was confirmed by the state police command in a statement released on Friday.
The explosion occurred at Tamal Filling Station along Kagadama-Magamar Jibia Road. According to police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the loud blast was reported by officers from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters. The Divisional Police Officer, in collaboration with military personnel, led a swift response to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the operatives discovered a truck loaded with gas cylinders engulfed in flames. Prompt actions were taken to prevent further damage and safeguard lives,” Sadiq-Aliyu stated.
Six vehicles were significantly damaged by the fire. Fortunately, there were no casualties, as the joint team effectively managed to extinguish the flames.
The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the explosion. The findings will be shared with the public as the inquiry progresses.
Authorities commended the swift and coordinated response of the police and military teams, which minimized the incident's impact. This collaborative effort underscores the importance of emergency preparedness in mitigating risks associated with hazardous materials.
