The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that he is not intimidated by the idea of joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) if he decides to do so. The former governor of Rivers State made this declaration during a recent interview with journalists, addressing speculations about his political future.
During the interview, Wike reiterated his reasons for opposing the 2023 presidential candidacy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.
“At my level, I made it clear to the entire nation that I would not support Atiku’s presidency because there was no fairness, justice, or equity within the PDP,” Wike said. “I wasn’t like others who would say one thing in the day and something entirely different at night. Nigerians know me—I’m straightforward. If I say I won’t do something, I won’t do it. If I commit to something, I’ll see it through. I have no regrets about my decision.”
Wike dismissed rumors that he was secretly planning to defect to the APC, emphasizing that he had not discussed such a move with anyone, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“The President knows I never approached him about joining APC,” he clarified. “Nobody should assume I’m hesitant or scared to join the APC if I decide to. Who in PDP should I be afraid of? Who exactly?”
