Big Brother Naija star Phyna has stirred public reactions after announcing she is severing ties with her family and dropping her surname, Otabor. In an emotional post on X (formerly Twitter), the 27-year-old reality TV star shared her struggles and a shocking revelation about her roots.
Phyna expressed that it has been "proven" she has no family, leaving her questioning her origins. "I am publicly dropping my family surname, OTABOR... It has been proven that I actually have no family, and nobody knows how I came about," she wrote.
She opened up about the turmoil she has faced in her search for answers, admitting she is in a state of emotional confusion. "It’s been rough with me lately... I’m in a place where I can’t even describe how I feel or what to call what I’m going through. Growing up, the way I was tossed around relatives, I should’ve suspected, but I guess I was too young," she added, expressing frustration with her journey.
Phyna’s revelation comes a year after her father, Felix Otabor, alleged she abandoned the family following her BBNaija win. In an interview, he claimed Phyna hadn’t returned home since her victory in the Level Up edition of the reality show.
“I haven’t seen Phyna, my daughter, since she won BBNaija. She hasn’t returned home. I don’t know why. After her win, she asked me to discard my old cars and promised to change my life. But since then, I haven’t seen her, and I don’t even have a car anymore,” Mr. Otabor said.
He later acknowledged that Phyna had gifted him a jeep but admitted he expected more.
In response to her father’s claims, Phyna previously shared on Snapchat that she felt unloved by her parents growing up. "I always heard, 'You are not my daughter.' Yet, I would beg for parental love," she wrote. Phyna said she has spent much of her life pleading for acceptance and now has come to terms with her reality.
The BBNaija star concluded her emotional outburst by reflecting on her identity: “No wonder… I guess I’m just an ORPHAN.”
