Labour Leaders Confirm Port Harcourt Refinery is Now Operational (Video)-OXYGIST

Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) leaders have officially confirmed that the Port Harcourt refinery is operational, putting to rest lingering debates about its functionality.

During a facility tour, union leaders from the NLC, TUC, NUPENG, and PENGASSAN evaluated the refinery’s operations. Their visit aimed to provide firsthand insights into its status amid public skepticism.

The Executive Vice President Downstream of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) briefed the delegation, announcing that the new Port Harcourt refinery project is 90% complete.

Amid ongoing conversations about the refinery's future, labour leaders have strongly opposed its privatization. Instead, they recommended adopting the NLNG model, which involves a partnership between the federal government and international oil companies for effective management.

The operational status of the Port Harcourt refinery has sparked widespread debate, with some questioning its readiness. However, this visit and confirmation by key union representatives provide clarity and reassurance.
