The Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has called on South-West governors to prioritize the security of the region in response to a warning from Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, about the influx of bandits from the North-West.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, Adams stressed the seriousness of the alarm raised by Governor Makinde, urging swift and decisive action to prevent the situation from escalating.
Adams expressed concern over the growing insecurity in the country, noting that similar warnings he issued in the past had been ignored.
“The alarm raised by Governor Seyi Makinde is a wake-up call for all South-West governors. I raised similar concerns last year, but sadly, nothing significant has been done. Insecurity continues to worsen daily,” Adams said.
He highlighted the efforts of the South-West Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG) and other organizations under his leadership in keeping the region safe but emphasized the need for a more robust approach.
“Now that Governor Makinde has sounded the alarm, there is an urgent need to address the situation before it spirals out of control. I urge all South-West governors to stay vigilant and take necessary actions to tackle insecurity in their states,” he added.
Adams reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safety of the Yoruba people, declaring, “We will resist any attempt to turn Yoruba land into a stronghold for bandits and kidnappers.”
