Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has expressed deep concerns about the powerbrokers surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing them as more dangerous than those who influenced former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Dalung highlighted a stark difference between the two administrations, claiming Tinubu’s cabal is composed of educated, ambitious, and politically astute individuals with a mastery of power dynamics. He argued that this group is more adept at manipulating authority and creating barriers around the presidency.
“In contrast to Buhari’s less experienced and unrefined cabals, Tinubu’s circle possesses the sophistication to stifle information flow and limit access to the president,” Dalung stated.
Despite Tinubu’s assurances in July 2024 that he was free from the influence of cabals or moneyed interests, Dalung warned that the administration could face significant hurdles due to the strategic maneuvering of these powerbrokers.
Since Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29, 2023, following a closely contested February 2023 election, his leadership has come under increasing scrutiny. Dalung’s observations add to the growing concerns about the president’s ability to maintain control over his administration.
The former minister cautioned that Tinubu’s presidency might face even greater challenges than his predecessor’s, attributing this to the cabals’ calculated and manipulative approach to power.
